Ladies’ Pond

No. 10 Pond is where I go swimming in the summer here in Calais. Always there is a group of older ladies standing thigh deep in the pond, talking together. In fact, all over the world since the beginning of time, ladies of a certain age have been standing thigh deep in water together, talking.

This is a story about all the ladies of the pond on late summer days when there’s plenty of time and never enough.
